Day 2 Delhi – Rishikesh transfer

We will depart Delhi after breakfast , and by doing so, we will see the city start to come alive. Day 3 : Rishikesh – Rohru (160kms – 6 hrs)

This morning you’ll take a short ride to get used to the bikes before heading off on your epic adventure. Today’s ride will take you through a series of twists and turns as we make our way to Rohru.

We should arrive at our guesthouse by midafternoon. Then we can head out on the forest deck and enjoy a few drinks overlooking the Himalayan foothills.

Day 4 : Rohru – Sangla Valley (230kms – 6hrs)

This morning we ride east to the Sangla Valley. Before reaching the valley we ride through the forests of Narkanda before riding over an unnamed Pass (3290mts). This Pass is generally a fun and gentle forest ride, however if the monsoon has arrived early be prepared for an adventure!

We follow the Kinnaur Valley through the townships of Kalpa, Sinnaur and Sangla. The Sangla/Kinnaur region is famous for its apple orchards whilst Kalpa has many temples that are dedicated to both Hindu and Buddhist gods.

Part of the ride is along the old Indo-Tibet Highway, following a section of the Old Silk Route, which saw traders traverse east to west over the centuries. An interesting fact is that in the Sangla women hold many of the senior government positions and are sometimes known to have several husbands.

We have a surprise for you tonight. The guesthouse and hospitality here is truly awesome and the outdoor dining experience is yet another amazing highlight. Try the local Apple Whiskey! This is a very safe, peaceful and serene place, so head out and explore the nearby villages and forests on foot – you will not be disappointed. Take a swim in the alpine river, try some fishing or just chill out in the mountain forests.

Day 5: Sangla Valley – Nako (175kms – 6hrs)

Again, you’ll be enjoying some amazing roads as you ride to Nako. Along the way there will be permit checks. We will enjoy a traditional Dhaba Thali lunch before we cross the Kinnaur Bridge with amazing views of snow capped mountains in nearby Tibet. The ride into Nako is some of the most fun motorcycling in the world!

Riding into Nako is an unforgettable experience as you get a sense that George Lucas visited here before making the Star Wars films. Check into our guesthouse.

The guesthouse in Nako is a very special place and has been the scene of dozens of Nevermind celebrations, dance offs and all sorts of fun activities involving extremely excited locals, the Nevermind crew and local brew!

Day 6 and 7: Nako – Kaza (120kms – 4hrs) 2 nights

Enjoy breakfast at the Guesthouse in Nako, which consistently gets voted as the best breakfast on tour! Try the choc banana pancakes!

Today’s roads are steeped in centuries of Buddhist history and we follow them into the disputed borders with Chinese Tibet. Expect some delays as permits are checked from time to time by military officials.

Enjoy passing through the Buddhist villages of Tabo and Dhankar before arriving in Kaza. Traditional Spiti Valley dinner and time to relax and get to know this stunning little village. In the morning we will take a short scenic ride out to the Tibetan Buddhist Key Monastery. It is the biggest monastery of the valley and is a training centre for 100’s of Tibetan Lamas and then have a full day to soak up the atmosphere of Kaza.

Nevermind Adventure Tours Himalayas

Day 8: Kaza – Chandra Taal The Lake of the Moon (100kms – 5hrs)

Today we depart for The Lake of The Moon for some dirt track adventures.

As you ascend out of the Spiti Valley (one of the coldest places on Earth) be sure to pull over and meditate for a few moments looking over the river valley. There are beautiful grassy glades that will take your breath away!

We’ll be riding dirt roads as we pass over Kunzam Pass. Ride it slowly and enjoy the stunning scenery this pass offers, as you’ll have it all to yourself. The Kunzam Pass is the gateway to one of the coolest places on earth (literally) – The Spiti Valley. The name “Spiti” means “The Middle Land”, i.e. the land between Tibet and India.

We camp at Chandra Taal – Lake of the Moon, as no permanent infrastructure is allowed in an effort to preserve this raw environment. Enjoy dinner in the Tepee tent and take a walk out to one of the world’s highest bodies of water.

Take a hike to and around the lake and if you dare, take a dip!

Day 8 (12th August): Chandra Taal – Sissu (140kms – 7hrs)

It will be an early start today but it will be well worth it. Following the Chumba River Valley west is both serene and spectacular, as it is somewhat Nordic with cascading waterfalls and green grass fertile slopes. No people, tourists or traffic for miles – just the odd Tibetan pilgrim and goat herder. The terrain is remote, harsh, high altitude and a great foundation for this epic day.

This is one, if not the, toughest days of the ride as you will get wet and dirty. Besides being the toughest it will probably be one of the most fun! Don’t be fooled by the distance as there can be a lot of things that may impede our progression such as landslips, deep water crossings, breakdowns etc.

Day 9: Chandra Taal – Jispa (140kms – 7hrs)

Day 10 Jispa – Tsokar (160kms – 7hrs)

We depart early after breakfast and ride over the famous Barachla Pass (4890mts). Road conditions here are good however we frequently encounter snow and ice for short periods.

As we descend into Tsokar the road conditions will change frequently from dusty and bumpy dirt roads to silky smooth tar. We turn down a little gravel road into a Steppe type landscape to our camp for the night.

This place is more Mongolian than Himalayan and is home to a small community of shepherds. During the winter this is one of the harshest places on earth, so it’s lucky we travel during the summer months. It still gets cold but sitting around a campfire out in this remote spot is priceless.

Play some high altitude cricket or take an evening trail ride around the valley. We are the only ones here and you are free to explore and discover its secrets. We are at altitude, some 5000 metres, so go slow.

Nevermind Adventure Tours Himalayas

Day 11: Tsokar – Leh (160kms – 7hrs)

This morning’s ride takes us over the Tanglang La Pass at 5328mts. Once at the top of the pass the words “unbelievable is not it?” will be etched into your heart forever, but you’ll only know why once you have been here.

The road into Leh is paved, however, you’re still at altitude so some concentration is still required. Arrive into Leh and check into our accommodation and take some rest before 1 more epic day of riding.

Nevermind Adventure Tours Himalayas

Day 12: Leh to Khardungla – Leh THE WORLD’S HIGHEST ROAD

In the morning we will ride to one of the world’s highest roads – Khardung La (5800mts). This was the highest motorable road in the world until 2017 when a newly created 86km stretch of road went over the Umlingta Top (5892mts).

Anyway – you’re up high. We don’t linger here as oxygen levels are very low and attitude sickness can appear. The cure for attitude sickness is to get to a lower level and take a scenic ride to the outskirts of Leh and surrounds. We then return to Leh (3500mts).

Enjoy a rest with time to explore Leh on your own, so you may wish to visit ancient monasteries, markets and local cafes.

Tonight enjoy our famous Nevermind awards ceremony! Tonight everyone can have a bit of fun and a laugh knowing that they have completed one of the best bike rides they are ever likely to do.

Day 13: Leh – Delhi

Today we take a short flight from Leh to Delhi where we have a special treat for the evenings accommodation! Relax and soak up one last night of Incredible India.

Day 14: Delhi Departure

Time to conclude this epic adventure and part ways until the next call for adventure!

The Food

In the Himalayas, the food is a rich and diverse reflection of the region's cultural and geographical influences. The cuisine encompasses a variety of dishes from Indian, Nepali, Bhutanese, and Tibetan traditions. Some of the quintessential Himalayan dishes include momos (dumplings), chicken curry, dal bhat (lentil soup with rice), aloo tama bodi (potato, bamboo shoot, and black-eyed pea curry), and thukpa (noodle soup).

The diet is characterized by hearty grains, legumes, yak meat, and dairy products, with an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. Spices are widely used, and the cooking techniques are influenced by Tibetan and Chinese methods. The food is known for its harmonious blend of flavors, creating a unique gastronomic experience.

Culture

The culture of the Himalayas is diverse and influenced by various ethnic groups and religions. The region is home to four noticeably different cultural groups: Buddhist (Tibetan), Hindu (Indian), Islamic (Afghanistan-Iran), and Animist (Burmese and South-eastern Asian)

The people of the Himalayas practice different religions, with Hindus making offerings and prayers to specific deities and personifying the Himalayas as the father of the goddess Parvati and the river Ganges. The region's diversity is reflected in its architecture, languages, dialects, rituals, beliefs, and clothing. The Himalayan people's culture is also characterized by activities such as animal husbandry, yak and sheep breeding, and nomadic pastoralism. The region is inhabited by people from different language families, including Indo-European, Tibeto-Burman, Austroasiatic, and Dravidian.
