Day 1: Arrive Delhi.

Delhi has two parts to it – Old Delhi and New Delhi. Old Delhi, especially Chandni Chowk is a bustling melting pot of merchants applying their trade, with loads of goods coming and going and all sorts of transport and where this incredible adventure will commence. A cycle rickshaw ride through the narrow and ancient laneways of Old Delhi is a great way of experiencing the chaos. The Red Fort and the Jama Masjid Mosque are located nearby.

New Delhi was planned and built by the British in the 1920s. You can visit Humayun’s Tomb and the Qutab Minar, considered one of the most perfect towers in the world. Nearby, amidst the ruins of the Quwwat ul Islam Mosque stands the iron pillar, which is over 1600 years old and seemingly immune to rust. New Delhi is where the government buildings, President’s House, Parliament House and India Gate are located.

If you are interested to see how the modern wealthy Delhi resident lives then check out Khan Markets and Corronaught Place.

Day 2: Delhi – Jodpher

Today, we’re breaking free to explore the cultural hotpot of Old Delhi! We’ll gather at the Tara Palace to take the transfer to the train station, where we’ll board the overnight train to Jodhpur. Get ready for a train ride like no other, once-in-a-lifetime experience, as we glide through India’s gorgeous landscapes. This is hands down, the coolest way to discover India’s vibrant culture (aside from travelling by motorbike, of course). Our tour groups have always found the train rides to be the most memorable. If you’re open for the adventure, the night may include a few drinks, swapping tales with locals and resting your head to the soothing train chug.

Day 3: Jodphur

We’ll arrive in Jodhpur after our adventurous overnight train ride and move to our traditional Rajasthani Haveli.

Jodhpur, also known as the Blue City due to its unique blue buildings, is a feast for the senses. From our hotel balcony, we’ll have a breathtaking view of the city. Get your camera ready because Jodhpur is stunning – the palaces, forts, and temples are out-of-this-world beautiful, set against the dreamy Thar Desert that we’ll be cruising through over the coming days.

We’ll jump on the bikes and do a short ride up to the Mehrangarh Fort which is an incredible fort built in 1459. To get the best views, you must go on the truly iconic zipline tour over the battlements and lakes of Mehrangarh Fort. You’ll get to glide between the fort walls and across two desert lakes. It’s an unforgettable experience, and you may even recognize the fort from the Batman film ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’

Day 4: Jodphur – Jaislamer (280kms – 7hrs)

Today we head off early to the “Golden City” of Jaisalmer. It received this name as many buildings are constructed out of sandstone and when the rising or setting sun strikes the buildings they have a golden hue. Expect to ride past ancient ruins, remote villages and countless camels. Watch the landscape slowly become more arid as sand dunes start to appear on the horizon. We’ll share plenty of chai with the locals, a daily tradition that’ll re-fuel you for the day ahead.

We’ll arrive in Jaisalmer in the afternoon, greeted with the view of Jaisalmer Fort that looms high above, making you feel like you’re in a postcard. Tonight’s hotel is one of these magnificent local buildings made of sandstone and epitomises the Jaisalmer style. With lavish spaces, balconies, traditional style furnishings the hotel provides a cool and airy traditional Rajasthani experience.

The Jaisalmer Fort is counted amongst the largest and oldest still active forts in the world, where the locals still live within the walls as they did thousands of years ago. Within the walls you can wander through the winding streets, explore quirky shops, and even hit up some rooftop restaurants for dinner with a sunset view over the golden city. It’s like stepping into a dream!

Day 5: Jaislamer – Thar Desert (50kms – 4hrs)

Today is an adventure-filled day as we embark on a journey to discover the secrets and surprises of Thar Desert, also known as the Great Indian Desert. The unique landscapes and thrilling experiences will make you feel like a true explorer.

The desert communities have developed a unique way of life that revolves around the scarce resources of the region. On our journey, we’ll witness traditional mud and thatch huts, camels, enormous sand dunes and livestock – a common sight. Despite the harsh conditions, locals are always welcoming and willing to communicate, take selfies and sometimes even perform traditional musical shows in the middle of deserted roads.

As the day draws to a close, we’ll arrive at our desert camp, where it feels like we’ve stepped into a movie scene. This resort focuses on providing employment opportunities for rural locals through tourism, showcasing local theatre and arts and handcrafted furnishings that adorn the resort.

After admiring the beauty of our surroundings, you can opt for a cold beer and sundown camel ride through the rolling dunes. In the evening, we’ll be treated to a traditional dance performance during dinner. The Thar Desert is known for its rich traditional folk dances that have been passed down through generations, making it an integral part of the cultural heritage of the region.

Day 6: Thar Desert – Bhenswara (250kms – 7hrs)

Hopefully you didn’t have too big of a night enjoying the previous evening’s entertainment, as we head off early in the morning for our long ride to the tiny village of Bhenswara. The landscape will transform during our ride as we leave the dunes behind and enter greener pastures, where leopards or Tigers can be sighted lurking in the surrounding hills and jungle.

Our destination is Bhenswara village where we will get a glimpse of rural life in Rajasthan. The village is home to fresh food markets and a close-knit community of smiling children playing in the streets. Continuing through the village, we arrive at Bhenswara Palace – a 240-year-old palace that has been transformed into a hotel. This is truly a unique experience.

At Bhenswara, our hosts will treat you like family. Once you pass through the entrance gateway, you will be transported to a serene and ancient world that is one of the most culturally rich hotels in Rajasthan.

Day 7: Bhenswara – Udaipur (220kms – 6hrs)

We depart Bhenswara and head towards the incredible hills that lead to the charming city of Udaipur. On the way, we will make a special stop to visit the Ranakpur Temple, one of the largest and most significant temples in Jain culture. The temple boasts more than 1000 pillars, none of which are carved the same, and is a remarkable sight dating back to the 15th century. Today’s ride has been likened to the that of Kiplings Jungle Book and indeed it was not too far away that the famous author actually penned the novel. Here is the true story of the Jungle Book. Who knew that this incredible story was inspired by real life events?

We arrive in Udaipur in the early afternoon, also known as the “Venice of India ” because of its five interconnected lakes, with Lake Pichola being the most famous. The sprawling City Palace, comprising several palaces, overlooks Lake Pichola and the Taj Lake Palace Hotel, which is located in the middle of the lake. After checking into our hotel, you can relax and take a swim in the afternoon while enjoying a refreshing beer while admiring the Sajan Niwas Gardens.

Day 8: Udaipur – Free Day

Today is a free day to explore this fairy tale city at your leisure. Our bikes will also be taking a rest day for maintenance, allowing our mechanics to service them for the next part of our journey. You can easily navigate the city on foot or by Tuk Tuk and our tour leaders are on hand to provide you with some local tips for the best markets, sights and excitement.

Consider sailing to Lake Pichola, which offers stunning views of the Taj Lake Palace and the City Palace. While on the lake, make a stop at the Jag Mandir Palace for an unforgettable experience.

Udaipur offers a vibrant shopping scene and an opportunity to indulge in local delicacies. Shop for authentic handicrafts, Rajasthani souvenirs, and more at street markets like Bapu Bazar, HathiPol Bazar, and Bada Bazaar. You can find a wide range of products, including handmade jewellery and leather items. The city is famous for its tailors and quality of its fabrics and suit makers. One of our Perth customers was so impressed with the craftsmanship, value and quality of suits in Udaipur that he had over 30 different custom suits made and delivered home! Enjoy the city’s lively atmosphere and savour the flavours of Rajasthan.

If you ever see a handsome, finely dressed gentleman gracing the streets of Perth it may just be a fellow Nevermind Adventure campaigner!

Day 9: Udaipur – Bundi (200kms – 6hrs)

After a day of rest, we’ll set off from Udaipur in the early morning and make our way east to Bundi. Known to locals as a ‘Shanti, Shanti’ place – or a peaceful haven – Bundi is a small town that will leave you feeling serene and this is said to be the location from which Kipling wrote many of his most popular books.

Today’s ride is nothing short of amazing with just about everything imaginable thrown into the mix. From the friendly yet bustling city traffic of Udaipur to empty single lane roads winding through rocky outcrops. The vibrant colors and contrasts of the surrounding landscape can stir up overwhelming emotions, feelings of coming home, even disbelief that you are here. It is hard to describe the feelings but anyone that has ridden these roads understands.

Upon arrival in the afternoon, take some time to wander the streets, indulge in the local street food and admire the stunning murals painted on the walls. If you’re in need of a little tranquillity, head over to Lake Nawal Saga. This picturesque lake sits in the heart of the town and offers a perfect mirror reflection of the city when the gentle breeze subsides.

Bundi is also home to the remarkable Taragarh Fort and Garh Palace. The fort is perched on top of a steep hill, with the palace cascading down its side. For a unique experience, we recommend visiting one of the step-well reservoirs, known as “baoris.”

Day 10: Bundi – Sawai Madhopur (150kms – 5hrs)

After breakfast, we’ll be heading to one of the few remaining areas in India where you can see tigers in their natural habitat. Ranthambhore used to be the hunting grounds for the Maharajas of Jaipur before India became independent. The park, which encompasses 392 sq km, includes the Mansingh and Kaila Devi Sanctuaries.

The ride today takes us into the central jungles of India as we pass through colorful villages, wide open savanna with very super winding and empty single lane roads and then through the thick central Indian jungles of Ranthambore.

The park is renowned for its wildlife, particularly tigers. To make the most of your visit to Ranthambhore, we recommend booking an evening guided safari tour. Our tour leader can arrange this for you.

And for another great story from our Rajasthan adventures and a great laugh, remind us to tell you our now very famous “Camel Safari” story. This one is an absolute classic and has had punters in stitches for years. And it is a true Nevermind Rajasthan story!!

Day 11: Sawai Madhopur – Agra (270kms – 7 hrs)

Today we set off early for one of the most exciting and fun ride days of any of our motorbike tour, ever. Starting out in the jungles of Ranthambore and then heading off the beaten track into rural India the contrast in wild and stark. You will see the real India today. The India of the movies, of school books, of history documentaries and of your imagination. A place where the outside world has barely touched, where life goes on as it has for thousands of years, a place where cultures collide and you cannot believe your eyes, ears, well any of your senses. A monkey riding an elephant? Sure why not. How about a wild leopard sleeping in an ATM shelter? Absolutely. Wild tiger sleeping beside the road, mysterious flying pigs and dancing sacred gypsy dwarfs. Yes we have seen these as well and much much more, for this is the land of magic, myth and legends. Keep your eyes on the road and your let your imagination run wild and let the spirits of this ancient land tell its story as we pass through these ancient lands.

After a mind blowing day of dust, mud, heat, sweat, filthy and stunning beauty, and possibly some of the most memorable motorcycling you could ever have imagined, we will arrive in the most famous city in India, perhaps the world. We will arrive in Agra. Home of the majestic and mighty Taj Mahal!

Nevermind Adventure Tours Rajasthan

Day 12: Agra (Rest day)

Whether you choose to start your day with a peaceful sleep-in or take in the stunning sunrise over the Taj Mahal, today promises to be a day of wonder and relaxation. The Taj Mahal, built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as a testament of his love for his wife Mumtaz Mahal, is truly a wonder of the world. The white marble monument took 22 years and 20,000 men to build, with the materials quarried 200 miles away and transported to the site by a fleet of 1000 elephants.

After visiting the Taj Mahal, explore the Agra Fort, an exceptional example of Mughal architecture. The fort served as the seat and stronghold of the Mughal Empire under successive generations. Akbar erected the walls and gates and built the first structures on the eastern banks of the Yamuna River. Shah Jahan added impressive quarters and a mosque, while Aurangzeb added outer ramparts. Unfortunately, Aurangzeb later imprisoned his father, Shah Jahan, in a power struggle for eight years until his death in 1666.

In the afternoon, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the Taj Ganj Welcome School, a charity-run school that supports local children. Interact with the students and learn more about the school’s operations.
